Gaven State School, Oxenford, Queensland

Opened in 1995 in the hinterland area of the northern Gold Coast, Gaven State School's vision is:

“To prepare every child for the future through the commitment to a quality curriculum, life-long learning and safe, supportive and engaging learning environments."

Gaven State School takes pride in providing a supportive and nurturing climate where every child can feel that they belong and can achieve success. Our school community provides a positive environment where our students are empowered by and engaged in high quality, authentic learning experiences preparing them for future success.

Creating balance between academic achievement, student wellbeing and growing the whole child is an essential part of our school goals.

Explicit teaching and modelling of schoolwide positive behaviour attributes of being safe, responsible and being a learner are fore fronted daily and celebrated as a school on assemblies. These expectations underpin the relationships within our school.

Our teaching and learning is guided by the Australian Curriculum V9 and is premised on high expectations for students, particularly in the areas of literacy and numeracy. Strategic curriculum planning across year levels ensures continuity of teaching for improved student outcomes. Inclusive practices and differentiation cater for the diverse range of student abilities, interests, social and cultural backgrounds.

Students have access to a range of technology to enhance and assist their learning.

Students participate in – Music, Lote, PE, STEM classes, a dance curriculum, swimming curriculum, interschool sport and district representative opportunities.

Our outdoor learning areas and equipment provide hands on experiences, creative thinking and build social and emotional skills.

We enjoy regular performances from our Instrumental and Strings program students and our joyful school choir.

The school has additional staff to support the needs of all of our students.

Our specialist staff include a Guidance Officer, Psychologist and Chaplain.

We believe in our students creating an early connection to our school to support a seamless transition into formal schooling. Our Busy Bees early childhood program and the extensive pre-prep transition program ensures a successful entry into the school for our Prep students.

The school has strong associations with the local early childhood providers and are privileged to have the C & K Kindergarten on our premises, which is a major asset to our school and community.

Strong productive partnerships between the school, our families and our community are at the core of what is valued at Gaven State School.

The Parents and Citizens Association is a valued partner of the school. Monthly meetings are held on the school site and we encourage you to take an active part in their initiatives.

We encourage you to think of Gaven as your school, take pride in your association with us, and work in partnership with our school to foster the positive academic, social, emotional and physical development of all students to ensure they reach their potential.

We are very proud of the school's achievements over the past years and as we move into the future we will continue to focus and build on our core learning priorities and in turn – help our students achieve to the best of their ability.

We look forward to a rewarding association with you.
