Music
Gaven State School offers a dynamic and exciting range of musical experiences for all year levels from Prep to Year 6. Through music, the students learn to use signs, symbols, instruments and technology to improvise and demonstrate the elements of music. The skills learned through the discipline of music, transfer to study skills, communication skills, and cognitive skills useful in every part of the curriculum.
The core elements of music development for students are through involvement in:
Classroom music
Choral groups
Instrumental music
Gaven Gala
If you would like your child/ren to become involved with music beyond the classroom curriculum, please contact Mrs Ann-Marie Sellars for more information.
Choral Groups
Gaven State School offers a range of choral programs for students with opportunities to perform on assemblies, interschool competitions and special community events from Prep to Year 6. The choir caters to both individual and group performance opportunities.
Instrumental Music
The strings program is on offer for children in Years 3-6 for violin, viola, cello and double bass. The multi-instrumental program is for students in Years 5-6 for woodwind, brass and percussion. The annual instrumental concerts is an ideal opportunity to see the quality teaching and hard work put in by the students that participate in the program.
Gaven Gala
Gaven State School is committed to developing the talents of all students and presents a biannual whole school performing arts event that is called the 'Gaven Gala'. The Gala celebrated its 10th Anniversary in 2010. The Gaven Gala not only showcases the extensive performing arts and dance talents of our students, but also those of our parents and teachers, who have always contributed their own performance to the delight of pupils.
Students from Prep to Year 6 are encouraged to participate in all aspects of the performances and our Gaven Gala events are themed. The addition of a brand new sound and lighting system in our very own Woodgate Hall has contributed enormously to the success of our shows.
